Not every FPV pilot is into goggles, especially if race/freestyle is not the main aim.
In this article we will take a look at the Eachine LCD5802D, an FPV monitor that comes with Diversity Receiver and Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

This is how the Eachine LCD5802D box appears:

Improved antennas

Since the included antennas are simple dipole, it is a must to change them with some better products. To take advantage of the diversity receiver a good approach is to use one omnidirectional antenna (cloverleaf) for short/medium distance and one directional antenna (patch) for long range:

As the following image shows, we need antennas with RP-SMA male connectors since we have RP-SMA female connectors on the monitor:

Here is the result with both antennas mounted on the Eachine LCD5802D:

If you want to spend a little bit more, a very good alternative for the above patch antenna is this one: Realacc Triple Feed Patch 5.8GHz 9.4dBi Directional Circular Polarized FPV Pagoda Antenna.

Ports detail

Next image shows the ports located on the left side:

From the left we have:

  • AVOUT: to send video signal to an external device (for example, FPV goggles);
  • RE: reset button to restore default settings;
  • TF CARD: port to insert SD card up to 32GB (it is important to format the SD card to FAT32, otherwise it could not be recognized);
  • AVIN: to receive video signal from an external source;
  • DC/+12V: port to connect the battery charger or an external power source (like a LiPo battery in case we run out of power with the built-in one).

Built-in LiPo Battery

Eachine LCD5802D Monitor has a built-in LiPo battery of 2000mAh@7.4V. Even if it is declared a working time of 3-4 hours, after testing it, I got a maximum duration of 1.5-2 hours, depending on the usage of the DVR.

Rear speakers

A very nice feature is represented by the speakers on the back of the monitor, so you can listen to the audio both during live FPV or while reviewing your recorded flights:

They perform well and if you turn up the volume they get pretty loud.
In the image above it is also shown the detail of the hole through which it is possible to mount the monitor on a tripod like this one.

Monitor Sun Shield

Raising up the cover a useful sun shield opens up for the 7” display:

Consider to remove the screen protector that has an “H” written on which covers part of the screen.

On Screen Display

The built-in OSD reports the following useful informations on the top of the display:

  • RSSI indicator for video signal;
  • Battery charge status
  • Band/Channel and Frequency.

Beware that only the informations in green are from the built-in OSD, the others in white are from the Eachine Wizard X220S.

  • Battery: when charging the light is red, while after charging is complete the light turn green;

The Eachine LCD5802D FPV Monitor performs really well: the diversity module works incredibly good and the transition between the two received signals is very smooth. Video and audio quality are great and the DVR feature is a real plus. The sun shade has been revealed really useful to maintain a clear view of the screen during sunny days.
