iFlight Nazgul5 Overview

The iFlight Nazgul5 4S / iFlight Nazgul5 6S is a 5 inch FPV Racing/Freestyle quadcopter; it comes both in BNF (Bind aNd Fly) and PNP (Plug aNd Play) version. The BNF version offers only FrSky receivers (ideal if you have a Taranis transmitter, like the Taranis X9D Plus SE 2019, which is one of the best transmitters at the moment): in fact, you can choose between FrSky R-XSR and Frsky XM+ receiver. Otherwise, you can choose the PNP version (without receiver) so you can equip the iFlight Nazgul5 with your preferred receiver (for example, if you have a FlySky transmitter you can use the Flysky X6B 2.4G 6CH i-BUS PPM PWM Receiver for AFHDS, which is very good).

Frame

iFlight Nazgul5 frame is an X frame with 5mm arms which are connected individually to the center of the frame. There are a lot of TPU parts covering exposed portions of the frame (for example, at the end of each arms to protect motors in case of a crash).

FPV Camera

The camera is the 2.1mm Caddx Ratel 1200 TVL and the cable to change the configuration is included (even if the port to plug it in is not so easy to reach). The FPV camera is mounted on TPU so it is possible to fit a micro camera there. The quality is pretty good and there is not so much noise in the video feed.

Motors and Propellers

XING-E 2207 1800KV are really smooth motors (4S version comes with 2750KV motors); the 5140 3-blade props included are lightweight and they are just a perfect combination with the motors.
If you want to have some spare props, you can find them here: iFlight Nazgul5 5140 5140 3-Blade Propellers.

iFlight Nazgul5 Motor

ESCs, FC and VTX stack

45A ESCs have an external 220uF 35V capacitor to handle voltage spikes (smoothing voltage), so as to reduce noise incoming to the flight controller and the video feed. Moreover the FC is soft mounted to reduce gyro noise coming from frame vibrations caused by motors rotation.

iFlight Nazgul5 Stack

Coming out from the stack, kept in place by TPU support, there are 12AWG wires ending with an XT60 connector to plug in the LiPo battery.

iFlight Nazgul5 Support Detail

The FC is the SucceX-E F4 and it comes flashed with Betaflight 4.0.4.
Beware that in Betaflight the quad is configured to have “props out” instead of the most common rotation configuration (“Motor direction is reversed” is active). It is also important to activate AIRMODE in the “Configuration” tab otherwise the motors will stop spinning at zero throttle.

VTX is FORCE VT5804 V2 and has smart audio control to change power levels and channels (see the specs), so it is possible to modify everything through the OSD instead of using the button on the VTX itself. It connects to the iFlightdoom antenna through a pigtail MMCX connector. It has also incorporated microphone for the audio.

Battery

Remember that battery is not included, so you have to buy it separately. A good choice for the 6S version is the GNB 1100mAh 6S 130C. Otherwise, for the 4S version, a good option is the TATTU 1550mAh 14.8V 75C 4S1P Lipo Battery Pack.

It is possible to choose between a silicon or foam pad to mount the battery: the silicon one is surely better as it offers a really good grip. It is also a good idea to use both the battery straps to keep them safely in place.

iFlight Nazgul5 Side

HD Camera

Of course GoPro Hero 7 showed in the pictures is not included and neither the mount. If you do not want to spend much, a very good alternative is the Runcam 5, which can record FPV videos also in 4k@30fps (here you can find an overview of the camera).

3D printed TPU camera mounts for GoPro and Runcam 3/3S/5 are available at the links down below (comprehensive of ND filter and lens protection cap):

Conclusions

iFlight has made a very nice BNF/PNP freestyle quad and probably one of the best ARF freestyle quad on the market at the moment, also considering what you get for that price.
